Engage in, assess, and create or revise course-specific icebreakers for your online class. Online icebreakers can be essential to establishing and building learning communities. However those borrowed from face-to-face activities often fall flat. Icebreakers that are genuinely learner-centered and provide instant alignment with the online environment and course objectives offer resonant, meaningful introductions between learners that support learning in community. Five Goals of Icebreakers in Education will be discussed along with step-by-step techniques and interactive exercises to build and evaluate icebreakers.
